How To Send EXE Files in Gmail

As you might already know, Gmail does not allow us to send email with .exe file attachments and many other type like .class files or any other compiled files. This is because of security reason, since those kind of files can be executed at the email recipients computer when they downloaded them.

Renaming the files to other extension or removing the extension could not solve the problem since Gmail will scan the content of the file, not just the file name and extension, so it will detect whether the file is an executable file or not. If it is, the Gmail will simply reject the attachment.

Compressing the file to a zip file will not solve the problem since Gmail will also scan and detect the content of the zip file.

So, is there any solution for this beside using online file sharing services available out there?

Fortunately yes. You can use .rar file compression. RAR uses a proprietary compressing algorithm so Gmail does not have any means to scan the .rar files. You can download WinRAR from this link. This is a tip for people who want to send executables or compiled files using Gmail, however if you are on the receiving end of such a email with a .rar attachment, make sure to scan it before you use it, since it may contain viruses or spywares.
